Host-built MCP or a plugin
InstaWP MCP vs GoBuildWP: built into one host, or installed on any.
InstaWP MCP vs GoBuildWP starts with a hosting question. InstaMCP is part of InstaWP's platform: flip a toggle in Site Details and you get a connection URL, 43 scoped tools, skills and site memory. GoBuildWP is a plugin you add to WordPress wherever it runs, and connects clients through OAuth 2.1 rather than a token in the address.
Pricing and hosting model
A hosting plan versus a plugin licence
InstaWP
InstaMCP comes with InstaWP hosting rather than on its own. On 2 October 2026 the product page says Sandbox and above, while pricing describes the developer toolkit across tiers. The earlier Elite-only conflict is no longer supported by those pages. Verify the current checkout and dashboard entitlement.
GoBuildWP
GoBuildWP has no host requirement. Free installs on any WordPress 6.9+ site and costs nothing. Pro starts at $39 a year ($39–$99.99 a year, or $59.99–$199.99 once across tiers) and is the same price on shared hosting, a VPS or a managed host.
Where GoBuildWP leads InstaWP
What changes when the MCP server is not tied to the host
GoBuildWP's side, checked against InstaWP's product, pricing and account-MCP pages on 29 September 2026.
The site can change hosts
An InstaMCP connection stops being available once a site leaves InstaWP. GoBuildWP is a plugin inside the WordPress install, so it travels with the site's files and database to whichever host comes next.
Many sites, wherever they are hosted
InstaMCP is built into InstaWP hosting. GoBuildWP Cloud connects sites on any host to one account: pending updates and the newest backup for each, free for 3 sites, and with Pro reviewed bulk plugin/theme updates with per-site backup options and eligible file-recovery attempts.
No credential in the address bar
InstaMCP passes its token as a query-string parameter. GoBuildWP clients sign in through OAuth 2.1 in the browser; the alternative, an access token, still expires and stays under a profile ceiling.
Writes on record, with undo where it is supported
InstaWP documents a one-step rollback for a theme switch and no change log. GoBuildWP credits each write to the agent responsible. Where the change has a restore handler and a kept before-image, such as a post edit or a theme switch, it can be undone and the restore is checked. Permanent deletions, refunds and other irreversible writes are recorded and marked as such.
Store orders in scope
InstaWP calls order management a different class of action and leaves it out. GoBuildWP Free reads orders and customers, and Pro's 52 further WooCommerce abilities add order writes, refunds and sales reports.
Elementor through abilities, not a skill
InstaMCP reaches Elementor and Bricks through a page-builder skill of undocumented depth. GoBuildWP Free ships 18 dedicated Elementor abilities, covering classic widgets and atomic elements alike.

Setup is one toggle
Because InstaWP runs the server, enabling MCP in Site Details installs what is needed and hands you the URL. GoBuildWP needs a plugin install and a client connection first.
Skills and memory on the free route
InstaMCP stores reusable skills and durable site facts on the site, four tools each. GoBuildWP ships skills in Free, but memory that persists is sold with Pro.
Power tools for staging
Off by default, InstaMCP's power tools run PHP, run database queries and read or change site files. GoBuildWP's nearest equivalent, under Developer Full Access, includes separately gated server-file reads and writes, PHP abilities, option browsing and a read-only SELECT. Review exact capabilities, confirmations and recovery limits before use.
A second MCP for the hosting account
InstaWP's account-level MCP, with OAuth 2.1, manages sites, snapshots and PHP versions. GoBuildWP has nothing at the hosting layer.

- Yes
- Partly

| Feature | InstaWP | GoBuildWP |
|---|---|---|
| Skills and memory | Yes: Skills and memory stored on the site.1 | Yes: Free exposes skills both as MCP prompts and through skill:// resources; memory between sessions needs Pro. |
| Safety profiles and read-only | Yes: Read-only mode, token scopes and power tools off by default.1 | Yes: Three profiles, the strictest being Read Only, with a per-ability switch below whichever is active. |
| Raw PHP, database and files | Yes: Power tools: execute PHP, query the database and edit site files, off by default.1 | Partly: Developer Full Access alone unlocks PHP abilities, reading and writing server files, option browsing and a single read-only SELECT. |
| Scoped, expiring credentials | Partly: Scopes read, write, delete and admin; expiry is not documented.1 | Yes: Access tokens end on a set date, can be narrowed to some abilities or categories, and sit under a profile; none travels in a URL. |
| Transport | Partly: A remote URL that carries a 64-character token in the query string.1 | Yes: One Streamable HTTP endpoint on your own domain, for clients on MCP 2026-07-28 as well as 2025-11-25, and stdio through WP-CLI for a client on the site's own machine. |
| OAuth 2.1 sign-in | Partly: Not on the site MCP, which uses the URL token; the separate account-level MCP has OAuth 2.1.13 | Yes: The site itself is the OAuth 2.1 server: PKCE, client registration by CIMD or DCR, each client app revocable. |
| Where it runs | Built into InstaWP hosting; only for sites hosted there.1 | Lives inside the WordPress install on whatever host you choose. Clients connect to it directly, or through the optional GoBuildWP Cloud gateway. |
| Price and usage caps | Needs InstaWP hosting. Product and pricing pages now describe in-site MCP on Sandbox and above; verify the current checkout price. Rechecked 2 October 2026.12 | Free core, no per-call metering charge; per-credential write rate limits still apply. No hosting plan is required. Pro $39–$99.99 a year, or $59.99–$199.99 once. |
| Undo one change | Partly: A one-step rollback for theme switches only.1 | Yes: Supported recorded changes reverse singly, up to 200 at once or a whole agent session at a time, and each restore is checked against the before-image. Irreversible writes are listed, and a later edit to a target blocks a session undo. |
| Backup plugins | Partly: Snapshots through the separate account-level MCP.3 | Yes: Free checks backup status in UpdraftPlus, Duplicator, BackWPup and All-in-One WP Migration; Pro can start an UpdraftPlus, BackWPup or All-in-One WP Migration backup. Neither restores or deletes a backup. |
| Updates and backups across sites | The separate account-level MCP covers hosting operations, snapshots included, for the sites in an InstaWP account.3 | Yes: GoBuildWP Cloud lists connected sites' pending updates and backup status, free for 3 sites. Pro adds reviewed plugin/theme update runs with backup options and eligible file-recovery attempts. Hosting permissions and dependencies still apply; recovery can fail and excludes database changes. |
| WooCommerce | Partly: Content, taxonomies and fields; order management is out of scope.1 | Yes: Free: 13 abilities that read products, orders and customers and edit one product. Pro: 52 more, refunds and sales reports among them, HPOS-safe. |
| Elementor | Partly: Through a page-builder skill; depth not documented.1 | Yes: Free edits classic and atomic Elementor with 18 dedicated abilities rather than a general skill. |
| Block editor | Partly: Through a Gutenberg pages skill.1 | Yes: Free edits block theme templates, template parts, Global Styles, patterns and navigation menus with typed abilities and undo; core block writes in posts are staged and finished in a browser session. Kadence Blocks, Spectra and GenerateBlocks come with Pro. |
| Other page builders | Partly: Bricks through the same skill.1 | Yes: Bricks is a Pro module with its own abilities, as are Beaver Builder, Mosaic and Flatsome. |
| AI-designed site header | Not documented: Not documented by InstaWP. | Yes: Free: the AI designs the header for the brand as an Elementor Pro Theme Builder header or a block theme header part. GoBuildWP checks the design before saving and the served page after, names each problem against its element, and the change can be undone. |
| SEO plugins | Partly: A generic SEO meta and schema skill.1 | Yes: Works inside the SEO plugin itself, Rank Math, AIOSEO or Yoast for instance, rather than through generic meta: a post's title, description and robots in Free, the rest in Pro. |
Weighing more than InstaWP and GoBuildWP? The best WordPress MCP server comparison puts every option on one table. Running several sites, GoBuildWP Cloud adds reviewed bulk plugin updates with backup options, backup status for every site and one safety policy across sites.
Who should pick which
Already on InstaWP, or hosted elsewhere?
Choose GoBuildWP when
- Sites live on several hosts, or may move away from InstaWP.
- Security policy rules out a credential inside a connection URL.
- Agents need to handle orders, refunds or a builder in depth.
InstaWP is a good fit when
- Every site is on InstaWP and one toggle is the setup you want.
- PHP, database and file power tools on staging are part of the workflow.
- You also want an MCP for the hosting account itself.
A test you can repeat on staging
Three checks for an InstaWP-hosted staging site
Find where the secret ends up
Connect each server to the same client, then search the client's config file and logs for the credential. With InstaMCP expect the full URL, token included; with GoBuildWP expect an OAuth session. Revoke both and confirm the client is refused.
Refund a test order
On a staging store, first confirm in the gateway's own settings that it is in test mode, so no real money moves. Then ask each server to refund part of one order's total. Note whether InstaMCP declines, as its order-management scope suggests, and confirm GoBuildWP Pro's refund both on the order screen and in the gateway's test dashboard. A refund cannot be undone from GoBuildWP's ledger.
Undo two unrelated changes
Switch the theme, then have the agent rewrite one page's intro. Roll both back. InstaWP documents a one-step rollback for the theme switch only; see what happens to the page on each.
FAQ
InstaMCP hosting, tokens and plans
Can I use InstaMCP on a site hosted somewhere else?
Not according to InstaWP: it is switched on per site in Site Details and only exists for sites InstaWP hosts. Moving a site off InstaWP means choosing another MCP route; GoBuildWP is a plugin, so it can be installed on the new host.
Where does the InstaMCP token live?
In the connection URL itself, as a 64-character value in the query string, with read, write, delete or admin scope. Anything that stores or logs that URL holds the credential, so treat it like a password.
Is InstaWP's account-level MCP the same thing?
No. It is a separate server for managing your InstaWP account (sites, snapshots, PHP versions) and it signs in with OAuth 2.1. Page and content work goes through the per-site InstaMCP.
Which InstaWP plan do I need?
The product and pricing pages read on 2 October 2026 describe in-site MCP on Sandbox and above. Confirm current pricing and the selected site's dashboard access before buying; this is separate from account-level hosting MCP.
