WordPress MCP server comparison, 2026
Best WordPress MCP server in 2026: 19 options compared with sources.
The best WordPress MCP server is the one that does your job under rules you can check. 19 WordPress MCP options cover official projects, independent whole-site plugins and specialist integrations. Compare the work you need, its permissions and recovery limits. Sources carry their research dates; Easy MCP AI's restoration was rechecked on 8 October 2026. GoBuildWP is our product.
Methodology
How this list was put together
We read each vendor's own documentation, pricing page, repository and WordPress.org listing on 29 September 2026, and the WordPress.org plugin API for install bands and ratings the same day. A mark means the vendor documents the feature; a dash means its pages are silent, which is not the same as lacking it. How the market got here in one month is in WordPress MCP in September 2026.
There are no weights and no overall score, because the GoBuildWP team wrote this page and sells one of the products in it. GoBuildWP's row describes the released Free 1.18.6 and Pro 1.12.4.
The 8 October documentation review rechecked official product pages and changelogs, with a focus on recovery and builder scope. Easy MCP AI 2.1.0 documents Change History restoration; Cowboy MCP also documents Beaver Builder and SiteOrigin. Older pricing, install figures and unrefreshed operation details retain their original dates. A documented feature and an independently tested result are different kinds of evidence.
What we have not done: we have not yet connected every competitor to one staging site and recorded the same task on each, so there are no screenshots of other servers here. When we run that test, its date, WordPress version and results will be added to this page. Until then, the six checks further down are the test to run yourself.
Access and sign-in
OAuth 2.1, whether credentials can be narrowed and made to expire, and where calls travel: a plugin on your site, a hosted relay, or a host's own platform.
Control over writes
Read-only modes, who confirms a destructive call (the model, a flag, or a person), and whether anything can be held for approval.
Recovery
What undo covers, for how long, whether a batch or session can be undone, and whether the restore is checked afterwards.
Coverage
Page builders, WooCommerce, SEO, forms, caches and backup plugins, taken from what each vendor says it edits, not from tool counts.
Cost and adoption
Price and caps from each pricing page; WordPress.org installs and ratings where a plugin is listed there.

What to compare
Best WordPress MCP server, criterion by criterion
GoBuildWP's column describes the released Free 1.18.6 and Pro 1.12.4. The other columns name the options whose own pages documented each feature when we read them; an option left out is silent there, which is not the same as lacking it.
| Criterion | GoBuildWP | Also documented by | Partly, or with conditions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Abilities or tools | 1,380 typed abilities in the reference, 232 of them in Free; search them by name. | Not compared: vendors count tools in different units, and some give different totals on different pages. | |
| Elementor | Yes: Free: 18 abilities for classic v3 widgets and atomic v4 elements. Pro adds 52. | Respira, EMCP, Royal MCP | Elementor MCP, Novamira, WPVibe, miniOrange, Flex MCP, InstaWP |
| Other page builders | Yes: Pro: Bricks, Divi 5, Oxygen, Breakdance, Beaver Builder, WPBakery, Etch, Mosaic and Flatsome. | Respira, EMCP, Novamira, WPVibe | Royal MCP, miniOrange, Flex MCP, InstaWP |
| Block editor and block themes | Yes: Free edits a block theme's Global Styles, templates, template parts, patterns and navigation menus through WordPress's own REST controllers, each write undoable. Core block writes in post content finish in a browser session. Pro adds Spectra, GenerateBlocks and Kadence Blocks. | Respira, Easy MCP AI, EMCP, Novamira, WPVibe | WordPress.com, Royal MCP, InstaWP |
| AI-designed site header | Yes: Free: the AI designs the header for the brand as an Elementor Pro Theme Builder header or a block theme header part. GoBuildWP checks the design before saving and the served page after, names each problem against its element, and the change can be undone. | None in the pages we read | None in the pages we read |
| Builder quality audit and repair | Yes: Free scores how editable an Elementor page is, 0 to 100, with a fix per finding (layout in HTML widgets, scripts, shortcodes, fixed colours, deep nesting). Pro turns simple HTML-widget markup into native widgets, dry run first, with undo. | None in the pages we read | None in the pages we read |
| WooCommerce | Yes: Free: 13 store reads and a basic product edit. Pro adds 52, refunds and sales reports included, HPOS-safe, plus FunnelKit funnel steps and per-step sales. | Respira, Easy MCP AI, EMCP, Royal MCP, miniOrange, Flex MCP, Cowboy MCP, WSP MCP | Elementor MCP, WooCommerce MCP, Novamira, WPVibe, AI Engine, InstaWP, Saddle |
| SEO plugins | Yes: Free sets one post's title, description and robots in Yoast, Rank Math, AIOSEO, SEOPress, The SEO Framework, Slim SEO and SmartCrawl. Pro edits the rest, with bulk meta on up to 100 posts a call, plus Redirection and Site Kit reads. | Easy MCP AI, Novamira, Royal MCP, Flex MCP | Elementor MCP, WPVibe, AI Engine, miniOrange, InstaWP |
| Multilingual plugins | Yes: Pro: WPML, Polylang and Weglot, and TranslatePress page strings saved 100 at a time as reviewed, with undo. Free builds the site header once per Polylang language. | AI Engine | Novamira, WPVibe |
| Safety profiles and read-only | Yes: Read Only, Production Safe and Developer Full Access, plus a switch per ability. | WordPress.com, Easy MCP AI, Flex MCP, InstaWP | MCP Adapter, Respira, EMCP, Novamira, WPVibe, Royal MCP, AI Engine, miniOrange, WSP MCP |
| Who confirms a destructive call | Yes: Confirmation-gated destructive and critical calls use a model flag by default. A person approves requires human confirmation through supported client elicitation or a wp-admin link. Ordinary writes need a per-ability rule or Pro approval policy to wait too. | Respira, miniOrange, Saddle | WordPress.com, EMCP, Novamira, WPVibe, Royal MCP, AI Engine, Flex MCP, Cowboy MCP |
| Approval queue | Yes: Pro: hold writes per credential or ability for a person, with an email notice. Input is validated before a call is held, so an invalid one is refused, not queued. | Respira, miniOrange | Elementor MCP, EMCP, WPVibe |
| Change log | Yes: Redacted ledger credited to each agent credential, 90 days, CSV and JSON export. | WordPress.com, Respira, Easy MCP AI, EMCP, WPVibe, Royal MCP, AI Engine, miniOrange, Flex MCP, WSP MCP | MCP Adapter |
| Undo one change | Yes: Supported recorded writes with a retained before-image; Pro content fixes can be selected one item at a time. Irreversible actions and expired records cannot be restored from the ledger. | Respira, EMCP, Royal MCP, Flex MCP, Cowboy MCP, wpmcp | WordPress.com, Easy MCP AI, Novamira, WPVibe, miniOrange, InstaWP, Saddle |
| Verified restore | Yes: Each undo is checked against the before-image and names any field that still differs. | None in the pages we read | EMCP, Flex MCP, wpmcp |
| Writes made through other MCP servers | Yes: Free records writes made through Elementor's and WooCommerce's own MCP servers, and EDD's and TranslatePress's abilities, with undo where they can be put back. On WordPress 7.1 an off-by-default setting also holds them to the safety profile and a person's approval. | None in the pages we read | None in the pages we read |
| Plugin updates with rollback | Yes: Pro: one plugin/theme at a time, fresh-backup check with an explicit override, selected logged-out page checks and attempted file rollback on failure. Seven-day file snapshot; database migrations and external effects are outside it, and rollback can fail. Not WordPress core. GoBuildWP Cloud starts the same update on many sites at once. | None in the pages we read | WordPress.com, WPVibe |
| Updates and backups across sites | Yes: GoBuildWP Cloud lists pending updates and backup status, free for 3 connected sites. Pro adds reviewed bulk plugin/theme updates with per-site backup options. Eligible guarded updates compare selected checks and attempt file recovery on failure; recovery can fail and does not restore database changes. | EMCP, WPVibe | WordPress.com, Novamira, Flex MCP |
| Team, client access and site policies | Yes: Cloud with Pro: one safety policy pushed to every site whose owner opted in, never looser than Production Safe; Search Console figures across sites through Site Kit. From 10 Sites: team seats, and clients who see only their own sites, read-only. | None in the pages we read | None in the pages we read |
| Backup plugins | Yes: Free reads UpdraftPlus, Duplicator, BackWPup and All-in-One WP Migration. Pro starts UpdraftPlus, BackWPup or All-in-One WP Migration backups (Duplicator is read-only) and can hold destructive calls until a fresh backup exists. Never restores or deletes one. | EMCP, Royal MCP | Respira, Flex MCP, InstaWP, Cowboy MCP |
| OAuth 2.1 sign-in | Yes: OAuth 2.1 with PKCE, CIMD first and DCR as fallback, revocable per app. | WordPress.com, Easy MCP AI, EMCP, Royal MCP, AI Engine, miniOrange, Flex MCP, Cowboy MCP, WSP MCP, Saddle | Respira, Novamira, WPVibe, InstaWP |
| Scoped, expiring credentials | Yes: Access tokens with an expiry, an ability or category scope and a safety-profile ceiling. | None in the pages we read | Elementor MCP, WordPress.com, Respira, Easy MCP AI, EMCP, Royal MCP, miniOrange, InstaWP, Cowboy MCP, Saddle |
| Where it runs and what it costs | Inside your WordPress install, on any host. Clients connect directly; GoBuildWP Cloud is an optional hosted gateway for many sites. Free plugin; Pro from $39 a year. | Every option's hosting model and price are in the matrix below. | |
Each option links to its own comparison in the matrix, with the source behind every mark. For many sites, see how GoBuildWP Cloud handles updates across sites, backups, safety policies, team and client access and the Search Console report.

✓ documented · ◐ partly, or only with conditions · ✗ the vendor says no · – not documented. GoBuildWP is sold from its own site and GitHub, not WordPress.org, so it has no directory figures. Elementor and AI Engine figures count the whole plugin, not MCP use. Tool counts are left out on purpose: vendors count tools differently, and some give different totals on different pages.
Our product, our claim
Where GoBuildWP is ahead of this list
Read this block as the claim and the matrix above as the evidence.
Undo that reports on itself
GoBuildWP restores supported changes with retained before-images, individually or in a filtered batch, then compares the result with the before-image and names any field that still differs. wpmcp checks each write, and EMCP and Cowboy MCP look for conflicts before a rollback; these source statements do not establish a unique feature or matched recovery result across every alternative.
A person in the loop when you want one
Destructive calls can wait for a person, in the AI client or on a one-time wp-admin link, and each change records how it was confirmed. Respira, WPVibe, Saddle and miniOrange also involve people; GoBuildWP lets each site choose the mode.
Credentials that cannot outgrow a profile
OAuth 2.1 with PKCE, plus access tokens that expire, carry an ability scope and never exceed the site's safety profile. Every ledger row names the credential behind it.
Builders, store, SEO and caches under one policy
GoBuildWP Free edits Elementor classic and atomic pages with 18 abilities. Pro adds 89 integrations and rebuilds pages between builders, all behind the same profiles, ledger and undo.
Plugin updates that try to put the old version back
Pro updates one plugin or theme with a default fresh-backup check, selected loopback probes and attempted file rollback on failure. Database migrations and external effects are outside file recovery, and rollback can fail. Cowboy MCP also documents backups/update recovery; neither result was tested here.
Many sites, and other servers' writes, in view
GoBuildWP Cloud lists every connected site's pending updates and newest backup and, with Pro, offers reviewed plugin/theme update runs with backup options. On each site, GoBuildWP Free also records writes made through Elementor's and WooCommerce's own MCP servers, with undo where they can be put back.
Where each one leads
Every whole-site server, in fairness
Each documents a workflow or operating choice worth evaluating separately. That is the reason to read the full comparison before you choose.
Elementor MCP
Vendor route for Elementor
Elementor's own MCP, inside 10+ million installs since Elementor 4.3.0 (22 September 2026), strong on atomic design-system classes, variables and components, and drafts-only by design.
Atomic V4 only for now; other plugins need the separate Angie plugin. Elementor MCP vs GoBuildWP
WordPress MCP Adapter
Official protocol bridge
The official bridge from the Abilities API to MCP, with stdio and HTTP, and the base other servers build on, GoBuildWP included.
Version 0.7.0 is in the WordPress.org directory as of 2 October; still infrastructure, with operational abilities and policy supplied separately. MCP Adapter vs GoBuildWP
WordPress.com MCP
Hosted account route
Hosted by WordPress.com with OAuth 2.1, read and write switches, the Activity Log and a listing in Claude's Connectors Directory; one account reaches many sites.
Needs a paid WordPress.com plan, or Jetpack AI or Complete on a self-hosted site. WordPress.com vs GoBuildWP
WooCommerce MCP
Vendor route for the store
WooCommerce's own product and order abilities, free inside core and built on the Abilities API.
Still a Developer Preview; products and orders only. WooCommerce MCP vs GoBuildWP
Respira for WordPress
Self-hosted, commercial
A documented list of 17 builders, including Brizy, Thrive and SeedProd, duplicate-first editing where a person approves every change, 90-day snapshots, stdio and WebMCP.
No free tier; SEO and forms add-ons announced, not released. Respira vs GoBuildWP
Easy MCP AI
Self-hosted, free
Themeisle's free plugin documents WooCommerce, SEO and analytics integrations, plus restoration from Change History in 2.1.0.
Restoration rechecked 8 October 2026; exact recovery coverage and other page builders were not independently tested. Easy MCP AI vs GoBuildWP
EMCP Tools
Self-hosted, free and Pro
EMCP 3.18.1 documents native builder subsets, skills, Pro backup/restore and History/session undo.
One standalone builder adapter at once; OAuth acts as admin, Application Password identity is separate; operation-specific recovery. Optional Cloud has separate entitlement and limits. EMCP vs GoBuildWP
Novamira
Self-hosted, free and Pro
Raw PHP, database and file access for agents, an experimental Visual workspace that drives the Elementor and Bricks editors, and an HQ desktop app for many sites.
Docs say development and staging only; no audit log documented. Novamira vs GoBuildWP
WPVibe
Hosted relay
Signed approval pages, previews and documented plugin-version replacement; older directory and pricing figures retain their snapshot dates.
Daily call allowances; 1.20.0 adds optional approval bypass. No automatic rollback for fleet updates and general per-change recovery not established. Rechecked 12 October 2026. WPVibe vs GoBuildWP
Royal MCP
Self-hosted, free and Pro
Unlimited free calls, WebMCP, undo tokens, a hash-chained tamper-evident log in Pro, and UpdraftPlus, Duplicator, its own SiteVault and Solid Security integrations.
Free now documents Elementor and Divi writes. Pro Endpoint Profiles add role/scope gates; exact defaults and recovery need release-bound tests. Royal MCP vs GoBuildWP
AI Engine
AI suite with an MCP server
A 90,000-install AI plugin with a free, uncapped MCP server, Workspace chat with mobile apps, and Polylang and WPML tools in Pro.
No page-builder tools or undo documented for MCP. AI Engine vs GoBuildWP
miniOrange Secure MCP Server
Governance-focused
Data-loss prevention, prompt-injection and anomaly detection, immutable logs and human approval on its Business tier.
Directory unlimited-usage language conflicts with vendor free/paid request quotas; current entitlement needs confirmation. miniOrange vs GoBuildWP
Flex MCP
Self-hosted, free
Undo, redo and whole-conversation rollback, scheduled AI tasks, eight profiles and free forms and WooCommerce.
Version 3.6.0 updated 2 October; rendered checks are documented but matched recovery remains untested. The separate free WP MCP Hub is a local router, not a site server. Flex MCP vs GoBuildWP
InstaWP InstaMCP
Built into a host
One toggle on InstaWP hosting: scoped tools, skills and memory on the site, and a separate account-level MCP for hosting work.
InstaWP-hosted sites only; token in the connection URL. InstaWP vs GoBuildWP
Cowboy MCP
Self-hosted, free
Everything free with no Pro tier: up to 184 tools, a seven-day undo journal, whole-database checkpoints, WP-CLI and file access, and Wordfence and Events Calendar tools.
400+ installs; a restore check and a person-approval queue are not documented.
WSP MCP
Self-hosted, free
A free server with its own OAuth 2.1 since 2.8.0, Elementor and Ultimate Addons tools, and Gravity Forms, WPForms, Contact Form 7 and ACF coverage.
Its site and listing give different tool totals; no undo documented.
Saddle
Self-hosted, free and Pro
Built for live sites: new installs can only read, deletes wait for your approval behind a preview, and Divi 5 pages are edited module by module.
Undo is Pro-only and limited to bulk changes; fewer than 10 installs on 29 September.
wpmcp
Self-hosted, open source
The repository advertises snapshots, automatic recovery after failed checks and session rollback. This review does not establish coverage or successful recovery for every write.
Repository and pricing disagree about Pro availability and snapshot retention; resolve those terms and test the actual release before relying on safety promises.
Feature-specific servers
Servers built around one plugin
These go deep on one plugin's data instead of the whole site. Facts are from each linked page, read on 29 September 2026.

Repeatable proof of concept
Six checks to run on any shortlist
Use the same staging site, user role and AI client for each server. Write down WordPress, PHP, the server's version, the target plugin, the client, the sign-in route and the licence state first: versions are part of the result.
Discovery
Can the client list the abilities this site will actually run, with dependency and licence gates visible?
Authorisation
Does a restricted WordPress user get a clear denial for a privileged action, and can the credential be revoked at once?
Native data
Do Elementor, WooCommerce, form, SEO and custom-field writes keep each plugin's real storage and schema?
Change control
Which writes need confirmation or a person, what is logged, and what can really be rolled back?
Verification
Does the workflow tell a successful API write apart from a correct render or a finished provider action?
Upgrades
After a WordPress, plugin or client update, can you see what changed before unattended work resumes?

More direct connectors and builder substitutes
These primary-source additions broaden the shortlist. Priorities reflect workflow fit, not popularity. Capabilities are documented publisher claims; no matched runtime, market-share or search-ranking test was performed. This is not an exhaustive directory.
| Product and route | Documented fit | Limit or uncertainty | Primary sources |

| NIBWP Site plugin, skills and workflows | Broad plugin integrations, builder skills and reusable workflows. | Pro and all-skills Bundle are different offers; directory and pricing disagree on some entitlements/counts. | Directory · Pricing |
| SiteSkite Direct site MCP; separate managed fleet | Site MCP is free and accountless. Managed fleet backups, sandboxes and Studio are separate products. | Do not treat every route as a hosted relay or assume fleet features are included in site MCP. | Directory · Platform plans |
| WSP MCP Free site connector | Active free connector documenting plugin-specific operations, writes off by default and audit logs. | Release activity and documented operations do not establish successful writes or recovery on your stack. | Directory |
| PressBot MCP, admin agent and Telegram | Scheduled reviewed work. Checked public offer: 13 free read tools, 115 full tools, USD29/year for one site. | Counts use its own tool units; provider costs and the precise approval/schedule route still need review. | MCP · Pro · Changelog |
| Bricks first-party MCP Builder substitute | Shipped in Bricks 2.4 on 16 September; builder abilities and skills. | Abilities remain experimental. This is a Bricks-specific route, not a whole-site cross-builder product. | Release · Abilities docs |

| Stonewright Public beta; Plugin and Direct modes | Documents inspect, approve, snapshot, write, readback and restore. | Beta modes differ; ability/tool counts cannot be added or treated as tested outcomes. | Repository |
| WP MCP (wpmcp/wpmcp) Self-hosted connector | Active releases and advertised paid plans, with snapshot/recovery workflows. | Repository and pricing disagree about Pro availability and snapshot retention; resolve before purchase. | Repository · Plans |
| WEBO MCP Core and specialist add-ons | Free core plus SEO, store and automation add-ons. | Domain query/mutate dispatchers use different count units; verify the edition and exact requested operation. | Directory · Add-ons |
| Breakdance 3.0 First-party builder connector | Agent Connector and native editing in RC1, dated 1 October. | Release candidate; Free-edition MCP entitlement was not established. | Release |
| Oxygen 6.2 First-party builder connector | Agent Connector in RC1, dated 30 September. | Release candidate; separate Oxygen Classic and inspect extension dependencies. | Release |
| OxyDance Pilot Builder editing substitute | Includes the former Bricks Pilot, counted once. | The editing FAQ limits support to static content; verify builder and dynamic-data requirements. | Product |
| Ollie MCP Pattern-led Gutenberg substitute | Experimental site-building route associated with Ollie Pro. | A free Ollie theme does not establish a free MCP entitlement. | Docs |
Use the same task matrix for every candidate: installed dependencies and edition; WordPress identity; external-client versus admin-Chat approval; native storage; readback and rendered verification; restoration limits; and plugin, fleet, client and provider costs. Approvals, undo, skills, self-hosting and native output are already competed features.
FAQ
Questions about choosing a WordPress MCP server
What makes GoBuildWP a strong pick for agencies with many sites?
GoBuildWP Cloud lists every connected site's pending updates and newest backup on one screen, free for 3 sites. With a Pro licence it runs reviewed plugin/theme updates with backup options and eligible file-recovery attempts when selected checks fail; recovery can fail and excludes database changes; it also pushes one safety policy to sites whose owner opted in and reports Search Console figures across sites through Site Kit. From the 10 Sites plan, a workspace adds team seats and read-only client access. Among the options compared here, WPVibe also documents fleet updates.
Which is the best WordPress MCP server in 2026?
It depends on the job. For Respira's documented builder list and duplicate-first workflow, include it in the shortlist. For a free plugin from WordPress.org, Easy MCP AI, Royal MCP or Cowboy MCP. For a hosted route, WordPress.com or InstaWP. For one vendor's own data, Elementor MCP or WooCommerce MCP. For one policy, a change ledger and supported undo across builders, WooCommerce, SEO and caches, GoBuildWP. Run the same staging test on the two or three that fit.
Should I pick a whole-site server or a feature-specific one?
A whole-site server such as GoBuildWP, Royal MCP or Easy MCP AI covers posts, users, settings and several plugins under one sign-in and one log. A feature-specific server such as GravityKit Block MCP or the Gravity Forms MCP server goes deeper into one plugin. A site can evaluate a whole-site server alongside a specialist; verify coexistence and avoid ambiguous overlapping tools.
What is the difference between MCP and the WordPress REST API?
The REST API is a set of HTTP routes for software that already knows what to call. MCP lets an AI client discover typed tools with descriptions and input schemas, then call them in a conversation. Most WordPress MCP servers run over REST routes underneath; the difference is the contract the model sees and the checks around each call.
Which WordPress MCP server is the official one?
There are several official routes, each for a different layer: the WordPress MCP Adapter from the WordPress project, WordPress.com's hosted MCP from Automattic, Elementor MCP inside Elementor, and WooCommerce MCP inside WooCommerce. Automattic's older wordpress-mcp plugin was archived on 17 September 2026. Everything else in this list, GoBuildWP included, is third-party.
Will an MCP server slow my site down?
Plugin initialization, scheduled and background jobs, and agent operations can all consume resources. Workload and dependencies matter; no matched load benchmark was executed here. Measure visitor and operator impact on representative staging.
Are tool counts useful for comparing servers?
Not across products. Several vendors give different totals on different pages of their own sites, and each groups actions into tools differently. Compare the tasks you need done.
What happened to Automattic/wordpress-mcp?
GitHub shows the repository archived by its owner on 17 September 2026; its last release was v0.2.5 on 24 July 2025, and its README says not to use it for new installations. See the migration comparison for where to go next.
Shortlist two or three, then run the same test.
Start GoBuildWP in Read Only, check an allowed read and a denied privileged action, then compare the write, the record it leaves and the undo.
