GoBuildWP

Hosted connector or site plugin

WordPress.com MCP vs GoBuildWP: a hosted connector, or a server in your install.

WordPress.com MCP vs GoBuildWP is a question of where the server lives. WordPress.com runs one endpoint on public-api.wordpress.com for its own sites and Jetpack-connected ones, reached through OAuth 2.1 and listed in Claude's Connectors Directory. GoBuildWP serves MCP from inside your WordPress install and reaches plugins WordPress.com's tools leave out: builders, WooCommerce, SEO and forms.

Where GoBuildWP leads WordPress.com

What a server inside the install can reach

Set against WordPress.com's developer docs, tools reference and support page, read 29 September 2026.

  1. The plugins you actually run

WordPress.com's tools cover posts, pages, media, comments, site editing, plugins, users and domains. GoBuildWP Free edits Elementor with 18 abilities and covers the basics of WooCommerce, SEO and form plugins, and Pro works inside other builders, the rest of those, and multilingual and cache plugins.

  2. Human confirmation for gated calls

WordPress.com's documented workflow uses user_confirmed: true. GoBuildWP defaults to a model-supplied confirm flag for confirmation-gated calls; selecting "A person approves" requires a human decision for those exact calls through a supported client flow or wp-admin link. Ordinary writes need a per-ability rule or Pro approval policy to wait too.

  3. Recovery for supported recorded edits

The cited WordPress.com tools reference describes trash recovery for some deletions; it does not establish every recovery path the hosted service may offer. GoBuildWP can restore supported recorded edits, including a tag rename, while their before-images remain. Term and media deletions have no GoBuildWP ledger undo.

  4. No plan to buy for access

WordPress.com needs a paid plan, or on a self-hosted site a Jetpack AI or Jetpack Complete subscription. GoBuildWP Free runs on any WordPress 6.9+ install.

  5. Updates that test pages first

WordPress.com's tools can manage plugins but describe no testing or rollback. GoBuildWP Pro updates a single plugin or theme after checking for a recent backup (which you can override explicitly), checks that selected pages still load, and tries to restore the previous files if one fails. That file rollback can fail and does not undo database changes. GoBuildWP Cloud starts that same update on every connected site that needs it.

Where WordPress.com leads

Where WordPress.com's hosted route is ahead

From developer.wordpress.com, wordpress.com/support and the WordPress.com blog, read 29 September 2026.

  1. Listed in Claude's Connectors Directory

Claude users can add WordPress.com from the directory. GoBuildWP is added as a custom connector by URL, with a server card and an MCP Registry entry instead.

  2. Nothing to install on WordPress.com

MCP is part of every paid plan; you switch it on under Preferences and per site. GoBuildWP is a plugin you install and update.

  3. One account, many sites, and the hosting around them

A single sign-in reaches every site the account manages, and tools cover domains, DNS, plans and creating sites. GoBuildWP Cloud also reaches many sites through one link and updates them together, but it does not touch hosting, domains or DNS.

  4. Changes land in the Activity Log

WordPress.com's own Activity Log records agent changes beside everything else on the site, with no extra screen to learn.

Price and usage capsPaid WordPress.com plans, $4–$45 a month billed yearly; new free sites get 30 days; Jetpack AI or Complete for self-hosted.36Free, with no per-call metering charge; per-credential write rate limits still apply. No hosting or Jetpack plan is required. Pro $39–$99.99 a year, or $59.99–$199.99 once.
Scoped, expiring credentialsPartly: Read and write tool toggles plus the user's role; token expiry is not documented.1Yes: Tokens state their expiry, scope and profile ceiling, and the ledger attributes each change to one of them.
Who confirms a destructive callPartly: The agent must describe a write, ask, and send user_confirmed: true. Reads need none.2Yes: Confirmation-gated calls use the model flag by default. In person-approves mode they need a human decision through supported client elicitation or a wp-admin link. Ordinary writes need a per-ability rule or Pro approval policy to wait too.
Change logYes: Changes appear in the WordPress.com Activity Log.4Yes: A separate redacted MCP ledger per credential; three months of history, downloadable as CSV or JSON.
Undo one changePartly: Deleted items go to trash for 30 days; terms and media have no trash.2Yes: Supported recorded writes can be restored from retained ledger snapshots, with restore comparison. Irreversible actions and expired snapshots are excluded.
Preview before a writePartly: New posts default to drafts.4Yes: Optional previews cover supported write projectors and can show Apply in compatible MCP Apps clients. Required preview is opt-in and exempts Chat and unsupported operations. Pro proposes content fixes before selected application.
Working copies of live pagesPartly: Drafts.4Yes: Pro supports draft copies of supported builder pages. A publish can be restored only with a retained before-image; an accepted irreversible publish cannot be undone from the ledger.
Plugin updates with rollbackPartly: Plugin management tools; testing or rolling back an update is not documented.2Yes: Pro: selected plugin/theme updates with a backup check and explicit override, logged-out probes and attempted file rollback; GoBuildWP Cloud runs them across connected sites. Database/provider effects are separate; rollback may fail. Core is out of scope.
Multisite and many sitesPartly: One account reaches the sites it manages.2Yes: One connection per site, a multisite network with each site's own profile and ledger, or one GoBuildWP Cloud link for many separate sites, with each AI app limited to the sites you pick.
Updates and backups across sitesPartly: One WordPress.com account reaches the sites it manages, with plugin management tools; a backup check or rollback around an update is not documented.2Yes: GoBuildWP Cloud lists connected sites' pending updates and backup status, free for 3 sites. Pro adds reviewed plugin/theme updates with per-site backup options and eligible file-recovery attempts. Hosting permissions still apply; recovery can fail and excludes database changes.
Block editorPartly: Site-editing tools for the block and site editor.2Yes: Core block writes in post content wait for a browser session, which WordPress.com's site-editing tools do not need; Free edits block theme templates, Global Styles, patterns and navigation menus directly, with undo. Pro covers Spectra, GenerateBlocks, Kadence Blocks.
ElementorNot documented: Not documented by WordPress.com.Yes: Elementor in Free: 18 abilities, classic and atomic alike.

Weighing more than WordPress.com and GoBuildWP? The best WordPress MCP server comparison puts every option on one table. Running several sites, GoBuildWP Cloud adds reviewed bulk plugin updates with backup options, backup status for every site and one safety policy across sites.

A test you can repeat on staging

Directory connector against a site plugin: three checks

  1. Rename a tag, then put it back

Have the agent rename one tag and change its description on each site, then try to reverse it. On GoBuildWP, undo the change from the ledger and read which fields the restore check confirms. Do not use a tag deletion for this test: WordPress has no trash for terms, and GoBuildWP records a deleted term as permanent, with no undo.

  2. Let the model confirm itself

Ask for a draft to be deleted and do not answer the agent's question. Watch whether the call goes through with a confirmation the model supplied, and whether GoBuildWP, in person-approves mode, waits for you.

  3. Edit an Elementor or WooCommerce item

On a Jetpack-connected staging copy, ask both to change a product price or an Elementor heading. Record which one has a tool for it.

Who should pick which

Content on WordPress.com, or plugin work on your own host?

Choose GoBuildWP when

  • The site is self-hosted and you would rather not add a WordPress.com or Jetpack plan for AI access.
  • Agents must work inside Elementor, WooCommerce, SEO or form plugins.
  • A human has to approve destructive calls, and edits need an undo.

WordPress.com is a good fit when

  • Your sites are on WordPress.com and one account manages them all.
  • You want to add WordPress from Claude's Connectors Directory.
  • The work is posts, pages, media, domains and DNS.

FAQ

Plans, confirmation and tool counts on WordPress.com

Can a self-hosted site use WordPress.com MCP?

Yes, once it is connected with Jetpack and on a Jetpack AI or Jetpack Complete plan, according to WordPress.com's support page. Calls then go through public-api.wordpress.com rather than straight to the site.

How long has WordPress.com MCP been able to write?

It launched read-only on 7 October 2025 and gained write tools on 20 March 2026. New free WordPress.com sites get MCP for their first 30 days; paid plans keep it.

Who sets user_confirmed: true?

The documented workflow asks the agent to describe the write, ask the user and then send the flag on write, update and delete calls. That flag alone does not establish a server-verified human decision; the cited reference does not establish what other enforcement the current service may apply.

Is it 19 tools or 60?

Both numbers appear: the tools reference lists 19 tools, several bundling many actions, while the marketing page says 60+. Compare the jobs you need done instead.

Does GoBuildWP send site data to its own servers?

Not on a direct connection: its MCP server runs inside your WordPress install and the client calls it straight. If you choose GoBuildWP Cloud, calls pass through its gateway, which logs the tool, site, outcome and time (kept 90 days) and does not retain ordinary gateway payloads as page records; bulk results and SEO reports are exceptions described in the privacy notice. Your AI client and its model provider still see what the tools return, under their own terms.

Serve MCP from your own install.
