Bricksforge MCP for its activation registry, popups and email templates

Bricksforge adds tools and elements to Bricks, and most of what it adds is invisible to Bricks itself: which features are switched on, how its popups behave, and which WordPress emails its templates replace. The Bricksforge MCP abilities in GoBuildWP Pro cover that layer. Pages that use Pro Forms or other Bricksforge elements are still built through the Bricks abilities, because those elements register as ordinary Bricks elements.

Data model

Numbered switches in option rows

Bricksforge turns features on by bare numbers with no name registry of its own. Tools (feature modules such as Popups, Form Submissions or Email Designer) are a flat list of integers in the brf_activated_tools option, with their settings in brf_tool_settings. Custom elements are a list of {id} objects in brf_activated_elements, and a row can carry settings of its own. The two numbering spaces overlap: element 5 is the whole Pro Forms family, tool 5 is Popups.

Popup configurations sit in brf_popups, each pointing at a Bricks template for its content, and Email Designer templates with their overridden emails sit in brf_email_designer_data. All of these are option rows, which is why every Bricksforge write here can be rolled back from the change log.

Bricksforge loads only while Bricks or a Bricks child theme is active; with another theme the plugin does nothing and the setup check says so. A fresh install has an empty element registry, so no Bricksforge element appears in Bricks until one is enabled.

Abilities

Bricksforge abilities by effect

Documented source abilities; live registration can be narrower. Edition and effect labels describe the source catalogue. The installed schema, dependency versions, licence, WordPress capability, safety profile and per-ability policy determine availability; labels alone do not prove confirmation or recovery.

Worked example

Parking an email override while it is redesigned

Expected outcome to verify on the installed stack; this sequence has not been recorded as a runtime test.

Customers receive WooCommerce's standard email while the copy is redesigned in Bricksforge's visual editor. Both writes can be rolled back from the change log, and enable-email-template brings the original back.

Check the active Bricks theme first. WooCommerce owns the default order email. Test the redesigned email with a sandbox order and inspect render and delivery; whole-row undo may overwrite newer template edits.

  1. bricksforge-list-email-templates

Shows each template, its status and which WordPress, Bricks or WooCommerce emails it overrides.

  2. bricksforge-get-email-template

Reads the metadata; the visual canvas is only included when asked for.

  3. bricksforge-duplicate-email-template

Copies the design into a new template that is inactive and overrides nothing, so it cannot clash with the original.

  4. bricksforge-disable-email-template

Sets the original to inactive; WordPress falls back to its default order email, and the design is kept.

Limits

Bricksforge writes that lose something

  • Use a disposable page and an email sandbox. Disabling an Email Designer template changes live delivery behavior even while the related page design is a draft; verify outgoing mail separately.
  • Disabling a custom element drops the settings stored on its registry row, such as captcha and Stripe keys on the Pro Forms element, exactly as Bricksforge's own screen does.
  • Deleting an email template removes it and its design with no trash; disabling is the non-destructive alternative.
  • Editing a template changes its name, subject, overridden emails and theme, not the visual body, which is designed in the browser.
  • Deleting a popup removes its configuration but not the Bricks template used as its content.

Other plugins

Bricks and Bricksforge side by side

  • Pro Forms and other Bricksforge elements are placed, configured and styled with the Bricks content abilities. When brf- elements are missing from the Bricks element list, their registry entry here is off.
  • Bricksforge popups are a separate system from Bricks' own popup templates: the content is a Bricks template, but trigger, display rules and animation live in Bricksforge's config.

Bricksforge jobs, start to finish

Launching a Bricksforge popup on one page, not the whole site

A popup in Bricksforge is two things: a Bricks template that holds the content, and a configuration that decides when and where it appears. Build or pick the template first with the Bricks abilities and publish it, then create the popup with bricksforge-create-popup. The template is checked at write time, and the trigger is one of pageLoad, click, scrollPosition or customTrigger, with its own parameters such as the scroll position.

Watch the defaults. A new popup is active straight away and displayOn defaults to entire_website, so a lead-capture popup meant for one landing page will appear everywhere unless the request says otherwise. Ask for displayOn specific_page with the page set, or create it with active false and switch it on after a look at the target page. Animation is one of five fade variants, and overlay and body colours fall back to Bricksforge's own defaults when not given.

Once it is live, bricksforge-get-popup is the diagnostic. It warns when the Popups tool is off, when template, displayOn or trigger is missing, when active is not true, and when the template it points at has since been trashed or unpublished. That last case matters: Bricksforge's popup endpoint serves the template to visitors whatever its status, so an unpublished draft can still show, and a trashed one shows nothing.

Switching a redesigned email over without a gap or a double send

The worked example above parks the original email while a copy is redesigned. Switching back to the new design has an order that matters. Two active templates that override the same email both fire, so the copy should only gain its conditions once the original stops overriding that email. Setting conditions through bricksforge-edit-email-template replaces the whole list, so send every email the copy should override, not just the one being added.

A safe sequence is: confirm the copy's design in the Email Designer, set its subject and conditions while it is still inactive, disable the original, enable the copy, then place a sandbox order and read the email that arrives. Between the disable and the enable, WooCommerce's default email goes out, which is a fallback rather than an outage. Keep the original until the new one has handled real orders; disabling costs nothing and deleting has no trash.

Cleaning up the Bricksforge registry on an inherited site

Over time Bricksforge sites collect tools and elements switched on for one experiment. bricksforge-list-tools and bricksforge-list-custom-elements turn the bare numbers into names, and report active ids the catalogue does not know as unknown_active_ids, which usually means a newer Bricksforge than the catalogue. Leave unknown ids alone rather than guessing what they are.

Tools and elements behave differently when switched off. Disabling a tool keeps its settings in brf_tool_settings and its data, such as form submissions, so re-enabling restores it. Disabling an element removes the settings stored on its registry row, including Pro Forms captcha and Stripe keys, and pages that use it keep the element but stop rendering it. Before disabling an element, search the Bricks pages for it and copy any keys from Bricksforge's screen.

Questions

Bricksforge questions

Why are Bricksforge elements missing from the Bricks builder?

Their entry in the element registry is off, which is the default on a fresh install. Enable it with bricksforge-enable-element, by slug, and they register from the next request.

Can AI design a Bricksforge email template?

It can manage templates, copy them and change which emails they override, but the visual body is edited in Bricksforge's Email Designer, not through these abilities.

Can Bricksforge changes made through MCP be undone?

Mostly. Tool and element switches, popups and email templates are option rows the change log can restore, but a restore puts back the whole row as it was, so any later change to the same row, by a person or another call, is undone with it. An email already sent while a template was active cannot be recalled.

Why does a popup the agent created never appear?

get-popup flags configurations that will never fire, for example a trigger or display rule that cannot match. Check those warnings before looking elsewhere.
