Build a business website

Build a business website with AI on WordPress. From your brief to pages you can review.

Start with your business, pages, design direction and real assets. A connected AI client can create and edit supported native builder documents, then help with navigation, forms and SEO. A complete site takes multiple tool calls, configuration and your review; one prompt does not guarantee a launch-ready result.

PROJECT TYPE: COMPLETE WEBSITE
BUILDER: [ELEMENTOR / BRICKS / DIVI 5 / OXYGEN 6 / BREAKDANCE / ETCH / BEAVER BUILDER / WPBAKERY / MOSAIC]
INDUSTRY: [INDUSTRY]
BUSINESS: [BUSINESS NAME] in [CITY/REGION], serving [CUSTOMER TYPE].
GOAL: [THE ONE ACTION A VISITOR SHOULD TAKE].
PAGES: Home; [SERVICE PAGES]; About and team; [PROOF PAGE]; Pricing approach; Contact; Privacy.
ART DIRECTION: [PALETTE], [TYPE PAIRING], [GRID], [PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE]. Name what to avoid as well: stock handshakes, glassy gradients, fake dashboards.
DESIGN SYSTEM: Read the existing global classes, variables and theme styles first. Reuse them. Create new tokens only where nothing suitable exists, and tell me what you added.
TEMPLATES: Inspect the installed builder's supported template types and dependencies. Propose header, footer and any archive structure; preview affected routes and obtain separate approval before creating a template that applies immediately or activating display conditions.
NAVIGATION: Propose the menu, its theme location, front page and posts page. Show current and proposed settings and affected routes; wait for separate approval before assignments or site-setting writes.
FORMS: Contact form on [FORM PLUGIN] with fields [FIELDS]. Inspect the schema before building. Do not connect notifications until I approve recipients.
PROOF: Testimonials, client names, credentials, statistics, awards and prices are [CONFIRM] unless I supplied them.
STATUS: Keep draftable page content unpublished. Shared settings and some template creation can affect live routes immediately; do not treat them as drafts. Report proposed activation changes separately and obtain approval before applying them.

This is the shape Pro's bundled build-page skills are tuned for. Vague briefs get vague sites; this format names the pages, the design language and the facts the agent is not allowed to invent.

What happens next

One brief, many typed calls

Nothing here is a black box. Each step is a separate ability call, checked against the connected user's WordPress capabilities, the safety profile and the confirmation rules before it runs.

Start on staging. A draft page does not isolate shared menus, templates, styles, taxonomy, access or delivery settings: inspect affected routes and approve those changes separately. These briefs describe planned calls, not completed runtime tests; verify saved data, the native editor and rendered output before launch.

Registered names from the shipped plugins. Schemas and descriptions are in the ability reference.

  1. Inventories the site it is about to change

Active builder, existing templates and their display conditions, global classes, variables, theme styles, menus, registered post types and installed form plugin. A header template change can hit every route on the site, so it is read before it is touched.

  2. Establishes the design system first

Colours, typography and spacing become variables and global classes before any page exists. Every page built afterwards references them, which is why the tenth page still matches the first.

  3. Builds the templates that frame everything

Use the installed module's exact template contract, not a common template assumption. divi-create-theme-builder-template creates header/body/footer layouts and applies its assignment immediately; preview and approve that effect first. Bricks template types come from its installed schema. Oxygen and Breakdance expose distinct template post types and condition settings; inspect their disabled/unassigned behavior before creation. Etch creates wp_template hierarchy slots. Mosaic uses its theme/resource graph and defaults to manual assignment. WPBakery reusable My Templates layouts are not a site-wide header/footer system; Beaver Themer template creation is not established by the existing reference.

  4. Writes each page as a complete document tree

One call per page writes the whole element tree, sections, columns, elements, bindings, rather than nudging one widget at a time. Structure is composed from the builder's real element schemas, so it opens in the native editor afterwards.

  5. Wires navigation and the front page

Prepare the menu and a current-versus-proposed settings diff first. After separate approval of affected routes, assign the menu location and use update-site-settings for the front/posts pages. Re-read the saved assignments and verify navigation; these settings are live changes, not draft content.

  6. Adds the form, then stops before the risky part

Fields are built against the form plugin's schema. Notification recipients, CRM routing and success behaviour are left for you to approve. The agent does not send a live test lead on its own.

  7. Reviews SEO before saving it

Propose titles and descriptions from verified business facts, using the active SEO provider's supported fields. Approve the changes, then compare saved values and rendered tags. Review canonical URLs and indexing directives separately; metadata does not guarantee search visibility.

  8. Checks the complete customer journey

Open each page in its native editor and at desktop and mobile widths. Check links, keyboard focus, forms and delivery to approved test recipients. Review publication, template conditions and front-page assignments separately. Keep a backup and resolve missing assets or configuration before launch.

Bricksbricks-create-template accepts a template type and optional element data; inspect the installed type schema.Active Bricks theme and eligible GoBuildWP Pro. Exact header/footer/archive types and inactive creation state must be checked; not established by a generic builder list.
Divi 5divi-create-theme-builder-template creates header/body/footer layout records and assignment conditions.Divi 5 and eligible GoBuildWP Pro. Assignment applies immediately, including default: true; approve affected routes before creation.
Oxygen 6oxygen-create-template supports oxygen_template, oxygen_header, oxygen_footer and oxygen_block; canvas content is separate.Oxygen 6 and eligible GoBuildWP Pro. Empty ruleGroups is not a draft; settings: {disabled: true} keeps it from rendering while configured. Popups are excluded.
Breakdancebreakdance-create-template supports breakdance_template, breakdance_header, breakdance_footer, breakdance_popup and breakdance_block; canvas content is separate.Detected supported Breakdance and eligible GoBuildWP Pro. Inspect settings and conditions; omitting settings is not proof that no live route is affected.
Etchetch-create-template creates a wp_template hierarchy slot such as single, archive or front-page, with optional tree content.Etch 1.4.19+, PHP 8.1+ and eligible GoBuildWP Pro; field-value operations need Etch 1.5. This is not a generic header/footer template-part contract.
Mosaicmosaic-create-template uses theme_id and name, a resource graph and manual/auto assignment.Supported Mosaic and eligible GoBuildWP Pro. Default assign: manual; auto with empty conditions can match every front-end page. Created status is publish, not a WordPress draft.
Beaver Builderbeaver-builder-create-template creates reusable layouts or nodes; a Themer header/footer/archive creation contract is not established here.Detected supported Beaver Builder and eligible GoBuildWP Pro. Themer detection does not establish its authoring coverage; inspect both stored layouts before node writes.
WPBakerywpbakery-create-template saves a reusable My Templates layout, not site-wide template conditions.Detected supported WPBakery and eligible GoBuildWP Pro. Header/footer/archive assignment is not established by this operation; use the owning theme's documented route.

Edit an existing WordPress site with AI

Start with the page you already have. GoBuildWP can connect your AI to supported native builder documents; the available edits depend on the installed builder, its version and your GoBuildWP edition. Use this workflow to scope one change before planning a larger rebuild.

A suggested workflow, not a recorded end-to-end demonstration.

Check builder setup and editing requirements
  1. Read the current page

Identify the page and builder, then inspect its saved structure, shared styles and template conditions. Ask for a summary before allowing writes. Keep a backup and test on staging first.

  2. Approve one bounded edit

Name the section and change: for example, revise a heading while retaining its link and styling. Review the target IDs and proposed values. An edit to published content can affect visitors immediately; a draft elsewhere does not isolate it.

  3. Read back and inspect

Reopen the saved document in its native editor and compare desktop and mobile output. Check links, forms and shared templates touched by the change. Review the change record and whether that specific operation supports undo before relying on recovery.

Where it stops and asks you

  • Free can create pages, supply full Elementor trees and build the site header with build-site-header, on a block theme or with Elementor Pro's Theme Builder. Elementor footer, archive and single templates with their conditions, shared design controls, additional builders and form building need Pro. Match each requested operation to the Free/Pro reference before starting.
  • The agent builds in the builder you already have. Installing or activating plugins and themes is blocked under Production Safe; those abilities only exist under Developer Full Access, which belongs on staging.
  • Static core blocks in post content are the exception to headless building: they queue changes for the Block Editor Queue screen, where a browser tab finalises them. Block theme templates, template parts, patterns, navigation and global styles are written directly through WordPress's own site editor routes, and builder-based sites do not need the queue either.
  • Pages are created as drafts by default. Publishing is a separate, explicit instruction with its own capability check.
  • Header, footer and archive templates apply site-wide. Ask for their display conditions to be read before the write and reported after it; Pro's approval queue, once you turn it on, can hold those writes for a person.
  • Require prices, credentials, client names, statistics and legal text to use supplied evidence or be marked [CONFIRM]. Review the returned draft for unsupported claims; this instruction is not a server-enforced model constraint.

From brief to launch, step by step

How long a business website takes when AI does the building

The honest answer is that the building is the short part. When you build a business website with AI on WordPress, the agent's run is paced by the per-credential write limit and by how many pages and templates the brief lists, so you watch it arrive in the change log over a sitting rather than see it appear at once. The days go elsewhere: collecting the facts the brief needs, reviewing every page in the builder and a browser, and the launch decisions that touch live routes.

Plan it as four stages with a person at each boundary. The brief comes first and is usually the slowest, because service descriptions, team bios, opening hours, prices and photographs have to come from the business, not the model. Then the run, which ends with drafts and a list of open questions. Then review, which takes as long as the site deserves. Then launch, where menus, the front page setting and any site-wide templates go live one approval at a time.

The same run on Elementor with GoBuildWP Free

Most builders in the brief above are Pro modules, but a small business site on Elementor can be drafted with the free plugin alone. The order below is what a careful agent does; your client may reorder reads, and every write is still checked against the connected account, its token scope and the active safety profile.

  • Orientation, all read-only: agent-context for the site's guidance, elementor-check-setup for the Elementor version, breakpoints and kit values, and get-active-design for the colours, type and voice rules the pages must follow.
  • Contrast before colour: check-contrast tells the agent which palette pairs can carry body text, so it does not guess white on your brand green.
  • One draft per page: create-post with status draft, then elementor-set-content writes the whole element tree. A wrong control or enum aborts that write with nothing saved and returns the schema to correct against.
  • Navigation prepared, not switched on: create-menu and upsert-menu-item build the menu. assign-menu-location and update-site-settings for the front page change what visitors see, so the brief asks the agent to stop for your approval first. Neither ability is gated by default; to have the server hold them for a person, use the Pro approval queue in its all-writes mode.
  • Proof of what rendered: verify-rendered-page reports the served heading outline, missing alt text, empty containers and stray shortcodes, and get-page-view-link gives a preview address to open at the widths worth checking.

What Pro changes for a company site

Free writes page content and one site-wide piece: build-site-header saves the header as an Elementor Theme Builder header (this needs Elementor Pro, Elementor's own paid plugin) or as a block theme's header template part, sets where it shows, and by default puts the previous header back if its served-page check finds an error. On a block theme, Free also edits the footer and other template parts with update-template. The rest of the Elementor Theme Builder is GoBuildWP Pro: elementor-save-template for footer, archive and single documents, elementor-list-condition-schema and elementor-set-template-conditions to place them, and elementor-preview-template-conditions to see which document actually wins when two claim the whole site. A new Theme Builder document shows nowhere until conditions are set, which is a useful pause: save it, review it, then place it.

Pro also adds the shared design layer (elementor-create-global-class and elementor-create-variable), form building in WPForms, Gravity Forms, Fluent Forms and others, and working copies. Once the site is live, working-copy-create lets the next round of edits happen on a draft copy of the real page, working-copy-preview lists what would change, and working-copy-publish writes it back so the URL and SEO history stay put.

Jobs that stay with the business owner

Some of a business website cannot be delegated to an agent, and pretending otherwise is how sites launch with invented reviews. Keep this list in the handover and tick it off yourself.

  • Supply or approve every fact marked [CONFIRM]: prices, credentials, awards, client names and statistics.
  • Photograph the premises and team, or licence images you are allowed to use; import-media-url only fetches what you point it at.
  • Have privacy and terms text written or checked by someone accountable for it.
  • Choose who receives contact form notifications and send the first real test enquiry yourself.
  • Approve each live change: menu location, front page, header and footer conditions.
  • Point the domain, set up email and check analytics consent with your host and providers; GoBuildWP does none of that.

Recovering when a page or template lands wrong

Start recovery by reading the affected entries with list-changes and inspecting their rollback state. A recorded action is not automatically reversible: recovery needs a supported handler and usable saved state. For a supported individual change, rollback-change attempts recovery and reports its result. For a wider mistake, inspect the session undo plan and its irreversible items before requesting undo-session; check redo eligibility separately.

Later edits can create conflicts or prevent recovery. Read the exact operation's result, then reopen the affected page in its native editor and a browser; do not assume that a completed request restored the intended layout. Keep a separate backup for changes beyond ledger recovery, including external effects. For client sign-off, export-changes provides the recorded actions, agents and times without exporting before-images.

Questions

Build a business website: questions

How many pages can it build in one run?

Work page by page and retain returned IDs. Client context, hosting resources, write limits, missing assets and partial failures can interrupt a run. Review each saved page before continuing; a brief is not an automatic transaction or a guarantee that every page finishes.

Which builder should I pick for this?

Template support differs by builder. Divi assignments can take effect immediately; create Oxygen templates with disabled:true until reviewed. Breakdance uses settings and conditions, Etch uses wp_template slots, and Mosaic needs manual assignment. Beaver reusable layouts and WPBakery My Templates are not equivalent to full theme-part authoring. Elementor Pro templates and display conditions have their own preview and publication checks.

Will it match our brand, or will it look like a template?

It reads your existing global classes, variables and theme styles before it builds and reuses them. The art direction section of the brief is where you set palette, type pairing, grid and what to avoid. That section is doing most of the work in how the result looks.

Can I use this on a client's live site?

Build on staging and review in the native editor and a browser. For production, re-read IDs, tokens, existing content and template conditions and approve a new diff; keep the brief but do not replay staging calls. Menu, front-page and template activation need separate review because they can affect live routes. Pro can hold configured writes for human approval.

Do I need to know what MCP is?

No. You install the plugin, connect your AI client once with the generated configuration, and write briefs in plain language after that. The protocol is plumbing.

Send the brief. Review the business website.
