Skills ability reference
Reference for the GoBuildWP Free 1.18.6 source. Installed schemas and policy remain authoritative.
Skills are Markdown instructions stored on the WordPress site, which an agent loads by name when a task matches their description. This skills ability reference covers the four Free abilities that read any skill and manage the ones the site's own users wrote.
Read-only, write and destructive groups describe the source annotations. They do not establish a minimum safety profile, human approval or undo support. Those controls are separate: check the installed ability, the connected user and the active site policy before calling it. A read can still return sensitive data. These pages are not evidence that every operation passed an end-to-end runtime test.
What Skills needs before these load
Nothing beyond GoBuildWP Free. User skills are stored as a private post type, wppilot_skill, that has no public URL and no REST route; ten revisions of each are kept. Bundled skills ship with the plugin, and other plugins, GoBuildWP Pro among them, can add their own sources of skills.
How an agent finds a skill
When a client connects, GoBuildWP appends an "Available Skills" list to the instructions it sends: each skill's slug, a source badge such as Built-in or User, and its description, with a line telling the agent to load a matching skill before starting the work. A skill appears there only when "AI uses it automatically" is ticked on its settings. The second setting, "You can invoke it manually", lets a person call it by name from the client instead of waiting for the agent to choose it.
wppilot/skill-get loads any skill by slug, whatever its source, and returns its full text, description, both settings and the source it came from. Sources are searched in priority order, bundled skills before user skills.
What the write calls will and will not touch
wppilot/skill-write creates or updates a user skill. The title is its only identifier: it is cleaned into a lowercase, dash-separated slug that is both the label and the lookup key, and a title that another source already uses is refused with a message naming that source. The body can be at most 1 MB. wppilot/skill-edit changes only the fields passed and answers "Skill not found. Only user-authored skills can be edited." for anything bundled. wppilot/skill-delete moves a user skill to the trash, or deletes it outright with permanent=true, and quietly does nothing to a skill it does not manage.
Before accepting the result
A skill is guidance, not permission. Read the enabled procedure, check conflicts and keep the safety profile and per-operation approval requirements in force.
Example Skills input: wppilot/skill-get
This one operation declares the 1 top-level input parameters below in wppilot/includes/skills/abilities/skill-get.php; slug is required. Other calls in this module take different arguments. Nested schemas and constraints are not expanded here; the complete live schema a connected client discovers is authoritative.
| Parameter | Type and meaning |
|---|---|
slugrequired | string. The slug of the skill to load. |
Representative call sequence
This sequence describes the documented calls and checks to perform. It is not a recorded result from an installed WordPress site. Inspect returned errors and partial results, then verify the saved values and affected output before proceeding.
Turn a brief that keeps being pasted into chats into a skill the agent picks up by itself.
- 01
wppilot/skill-writeSaves the brief with a title such as "product-page-copy" and a one-line description that says when it applies, because the description is what the agent matches on. - 02
wppilot/skill-getReads it back to confirm the slug it was stored under and that both settings are on. - 03
wppilot/skill-editLater, tightens the description if the agent loads the skill for the wrong tasks, leaving the body untouched.
Skills reads
| Ability | What it does |
|---|---|
wppilot/skill-getGet Skill | Load a GoBuildWP skill by slug. Returns the full SKILL.md content plus metadata. |
Skills writes
| Ability | What it does |
|---|---|
wppilot/skill-editEdit Skill | Update one or more fields on an existing user skill. Only the fields you pass are touched; everything else is preserved. |
Destructive Skills calls
| Ability | What it does |
|---|---|
wppilot/skill-deleteDelete Skill | Move a GoBuildWP user skill to trash. Pass permanent=true to skip trash and delete immediately. |
